Is Pakistan inching towards another World Cup 1992 like victory?

9th Nov 2022, Day was scheduled for 1st Semi-finals between PAK vs NZ for T20 World Cup. New-Zealand were at the top of Group 1 with 7 points and has to contest against Pakistan from Group 2. while many saw Pakistan’s qualifying to semis as mere luck. They have made a big upset like earlier they did in 1992 World-Cup. Before going 30 years back in time Lets summarize what happen in today’s semifinals.

HIGHLIGHTs of PAK Vs NZ 1st Semi-Final T20 World Cup 2022

• New-Zealand won the toss and Kane Williamson decided to bat first,

• Kane Williamson and Daryl Mitchell scored 46 and 53* respectively,

• NZ put the total of 152 runs on the board and gave target of 153,

• Shaheen Shah Afridi took 2 wickets by giving just 24 runs in his 4 over spell,

• Mohammad Rizwan and Babar Azam started the inning scored 55 runs in powerplay,

• They added 105 in opening partnership in just 12.4 overs,

• Babar Azam scored 50 off 38 balls and Mohammad Rizwan 50 off 36 balls,

• Pakistan chased the target in just 19.1 overs and reaches to the finals,

What happend in 1992 World Cup

• Pakistan started in worse possible way and lost 4 out of their first 5 games,

• Later they picked it and won the last 3 matches of their qualifier group,

• New-Zealand started very well and won 7 out of their 8 qualifier games,

• Only game NZ lost in qualifiers were against Pakistan,

• Both Pakistan and New-Zealand met in semi-finals, NZ batted first and scored 262/7 runs,

• Martin Crowe and Ken Rutherford scored 91 and 50 runs respectively,

• Pakistan had a moderate start and Amir Sohail dismissed early,

• Imran Khan lead the team from front, came first down and scored 44 runs,

• Ramiz Raja and Javed Miadad scored 44 and 57 runs respectively,

• The match winning knock was played Inzmam-Ul-Haq by 60 runs of just 37 balls, Pak won the match by 4 wickets,

In T20 2022 World Cup Pakistan started in similar way as of 1992 and they picked up their game. This time also they defeated New-Zealand in Semifinals and made their way to finals. 1992 they met England into the finals and this time again if England defeated India into 2nd Semi-finals then they will meet England in Finals.
