Even in the Sourav Ganguly’s era, besides Nat West Trophy 2002 final India doesn’t have much of a popular Run Chase but with the advent of Virat Kohli Indian batsman evolved and became a better chase. Experts claimed that he better himself under pressure. Not only he scored big but also knew how to rotate the strike on a non-batting pitch.
EFFICIENT UTILIZATION OF SPIN BOWLERS
In early 2000, Sourav Ganguly brought Harbhajan Singh whose bowling action was questioned by umpire earlier back into the team. He then showed his worth and became a regular face with Anil Kumble in bowling attack. While with M S Dhoni, Ravi Chandran Ashwin was the face of spin attack in both ODIs and Test Matches, Kohli pushed Kuldeep Yadav and Yuzvendra Chahal into the last 11. He utilized the finger and wrist spin as per the need of the hour and gave fine results.
ROTATING THE ALL ROUNDERS
With and Hardik Pandya and Ravindra Jadeja in the list. Indian selectors had a very tough decision of who-to-pick. Hardik was considered moreover a batting all rounder who could hit big sixes in the slog overs. While Jadeja could also score big runs still he was considered as bowling all rounder. it was certainly tough for Virat who to choose and to which format. He then came up with decision of utilizing Jadeja for Test and Hardik on One-Dayers ultimately his decision was proved right to a huge extent.
With all the above factors and many others, The larger chunk of audience still feels that Virat Kohli would going to be proved as an asset in upcoming big tournaments. He showed his mettle in the first match against Pakistan in ongoing Asia Cup.
