Sanju Vishwanath Samson born on 11th Nov 1994, Pulluvila, Vizhinjam, Trivandrum at the home of a Police man. He first made into the national news when he was selected for U-19 Asia Cup. The tournament didn’t go as per plan for him subsequently he was dropped for U-19 World Cup squad. 2013 Sanju Samson made it to the IPL’s Rajasthan Royal’s franchise only at the age of 18. He not only performed in front of stumps but also impress behind with his wicket keeping abilities. While he failed to impress the BCCI selectors but continued with his improved and impressive performances in IPL tournaments.

Sanju Samson Debut in International Cricket
He was first called to play for Indian T20 side by July 2015 against Zimbabwe at their home ground but then again kept out for next 4 years. He made his ODI debut in 2021 against the Sri-Lanka but again was out for more than a year. He came back to ODI squad in 2022 against the West Indies series. His most of the international career has occurred in bits and pieces.
His fans were furious when he was consistently ignored by selectors while choosing squad for Asia Cup 2022 and T20 World Cup as well. He later was picked for the three-match ODI series against South Africa. The first ODI was a tight contest but India lost it. Samson’s unbeaten 86 runs contributed to India’s getting within nine runs of winning the match, but his efforts couldn’t lead India to win. In the ensuing two One-Day Internationals against South Africa, he scored, respectively, an unbeaten 30 and 2 runs. India won the series 2-1 by coming out on top.

While his T20 stats doesn’t justify his capabilities but the ODIs are impressive but the selectors were considering Rishabh Pant, Dinesh Karthik only for the wicketkeeper batsman.
Ireland Cricket Board Offer
Although Sanju Samson struggled to impress Indian selectors, his capabilities are recognized by the Ireland’s Cricket Board. As per Cricinformer‘s report, the Ireland cricket board has made an offer to Sanju Samson. He is requested to represent Ireland in international cricket by the country’s cricket president, he also is offered to be the captain of the team.
“We will let him play all the matches if he is in our national team. He is a very impressive batter and he is one of the rare talent. We provide him an offer to play the matches from our national team. Our team required a skipper and batter like him. If the Indian team is overlooking him then he can join us, we respect him and make him play every match,” said Ireland’s cricket president.“
Sanju Samson’s Response
To the huge offer made by Ireland’s Cricket officials Sanju replied “First of all, I want to thank Ireland’s cricket president for considering me for this role but I can’t accept his offer. I started my cricketing to play for Indian national cricket team. I don’t want to play for any other nation or can’t even think to play for another nation. I can’t accept this offer and I want to say sorry to Ireland’s cricket president.” Said, Sanju Samson.
He also added “Although, I haven’t got plenty of chances in the Indian cricket team but I will work hard and have self believe and sometimes the combination of team doesn’t allow your place in the playing XI but it doesn’t mean I am sad,“
Though Sanju Samson politely refuse the Ireland’s Cricket Board generous offer and choose to wait and picked by the Indian side. His admirers and Cricket Lovers are also eagerly waiting for him to see in the Team Indi’a jersey.
